Experience Sir Mark Elder live on May 5th

On May 5th, 2027, Sir Mark Elder will conduct a concert at Symphony Hall, Birmingham. Sir Mark Elder is renowned for his interpretations of British composers, particularly those of Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Britten, alongside a broad repertoire encompassing standard orchestral works and 20th/21st-century pieces. His conducting style is frequently described as meticulous and insightful, prioritizing clarity of texture and dramatic pacing. He consistently champions lesser-known works alongside established classics.

Symphony Hall opened in September 1991, quickly establishing itself as one of the finest concert halls globally due to its exceptional acoustics. Designed by Renton Eggleston Preddy Limited, the hall was specifically engineered to provide an optimal auditory experience for both performers and audience members; its shoebox shape and variable acoustics are key features. The hall is home to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) with whom Sir Mark Elder has a long-standing relationship, previously serving as its Music Director (1989-1995) and currently holding the position of Principal Conductor. The hall hosts over 300 performances annually spanning classical music, jazz, rock, pop and other genres.
