Kazuki Yamada is a highly regarded Japanese conductor known for his interpretations of a broad repertoire, ranging from Baroque to contemporary works. His style is often described as possessing both clarity and emotional depth, with particular strengths in conveying the nuances of orchestral colour and phrasing. He frequently conducts major international orchestras and opera houses, establishing a reputation for insightful and technically proficient performances.

The concert will take place within Coventry Cathedral Church of St Michael, a site of significant historical and cultural importance. The current cathedral was consecrated in 1962, replacing the medieval cathedral largely destroyed by bombing during World War II on November 14th, 1940. This event became a powerful symbol of the devastation of war and the subsequent drive for peace and reconciliation. The new cathedral, designed by Sir Basil Spence, stands alongside the ruins of the old, creating a unique juxtaposition of past and present. Its modern architectural style incorporates stained glass by John Piper and features a striking spire – at the time of completion it was the tallest in Britain. The cathedral continues to serve as an active place of worship and a prominent landmark dedicated to forgiveness.
