Washington is a contemporary jazz saxophonist and composer known for his expansive and spiritually-infused music. His style blends elements of post-bop jazz with funk, soul, and hip-hop influences, often featuring extended improvisations and large ensemble arrangements. He gained significant recognition with the release of his critically acclaimed 2015 album *The Epic*, a three-part suite exploring themes of cosmic consciousness and Black American history.

Yoshi’s is a renowned jazz club with a rich history. Originally founded in Oakland, California in 1974 by Yoshiaki “Yoshi” Matsuura, it quickly became a vital hub for both established and emerging jazz artists. The club has hosted numerous legends over the decades, contributing significantly to the Bay Area’s vibrant jazz scene. After relocating several times, including a period in San Francisco's Fillmore District, Yoshi’s currently operates as part of the Bird Encounters Kids' Spot complex.
