National Sawdust is an independent venue dedicated to supporting artists in music, opera, dance, theater and film. Opened in 2015, it was founded by Paula Herbach and Peter Sciscioli with the intention of providing a space for artistic experimentation and new work creation free from commercial pressures. The building itself was formerly a sawdust factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn; the venue’s design intentionally retains some industrial aesthetic elements while prioritizing acoustics and artist comfort. It’s known for its intimate setting—holding approximately 200 seats—and its commitment to high-quality sound reinforcement and recording capabilities. National Sawdust regularly hosts both emerging and established artists, offering residencies alongside single performances.
