Black Cat is a historic nightclub located in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco. Originally opened as a speakeasy during Prohibition in 1922, it operated under various names before becoming Black Cat in 1966. Throughout the late 1960s and 70s, the venue became a significant hub for counterculture activity and hosted performances by numerous influential musicians including Nina Simone, The Pointer Sisters, and Bonnie Raitt. It was also notable for being a welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community during a period when such establishments were less common.
