De Bijloke is a historic complex in Ghent, originally founded in 1318 as a hospital dedicated to Saint Alexius. Throughout its history it served various medical functions until ceasing to operate as a hospital in 1978. Following extensive renovations completed in 2000, De Bijloke was repurposed as a cultural centre. The complex now houses concert halls, exhibition spaces, and rehearsal facilities. Its main concert hall is renowned for its excellent acoustics and intimate atmosphere; it is frequently used for classical music performances but hosts events across various genres. The architecture reflects its medieval origins blended with modern design elements resulting from the restoration work.
