The University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley is a non-profit research garden affiliated with UC Berkeley’s College of Natural Resources. Established in 1914, it’s one of the oldest botanical gardens in the United States dedicated to native Californian plants. The garden encompasses 34 acres and features diverse plant collections from around the world, organized geographically. It focuses on plants of Mediterranean climates but includes significant sections dedicated to Eastern North America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. The garden serves as a living laboratory supporting research in plant biology and conservation while also offering educational programs to the public. Its hillside location provides varied microclimates contributing to its extensive plant diversity.
