Nikolaisaal holds significant cultural importance within Potsdam. Originally constructed in 1906 as the Stadttheater (City Theatre), it underwent substantial damage during World War II. Rebuilt in a simplified neoclassical style and reopened in 1963, it was renamed in honour of composer Kurt Weill’s collaborator, Lotte Lenya (née Karolina Elisabeth Blaschke) – known professionally as Lotte Lenya – whose maiden name was Nikolaus.

The venue serves as a multi-purpose cultural center hosting orchestral concerts, chamber music performances, theatrical productions, and other events. It is renowned for its excellent acoustics and intimate setting, accommodating approximately 800 attendees.
