Timog is a relatively new performance venue in Newark’s West Ward, established in 2024. It occupies a renovated industrial space originally built in the early 20th century to serve as a manufacturing facility for leather goods. The building’s history reflects Newark’s past as a major industrial center. The venue owners intentionally chose the name “Timog,” meaning “south” in Tagalog, to honor the significant Filipino community within Newark and the broader New Jersey area, aiming to create an inclusive space celebrating diverse cultural expressions. Timog quickly gained recognition for hosting emerging artists across various genres including independent music, poetry slams and live bands. It has a capacity of approximately 250 people and focuses on creating an intimate concert experience.
