Doug Beavers will perform at Lackawanna Station in Montclair, New Jersey on August 15, 2026. Beavers is a guitarist known for his work within the American Primitive guitar tradition, a style deeply rooted in fingerstyle acoustic guitar playing. His compositions often draw inspiration from folk, blues, and classical music, characterized by intricate picking patterns, open tunings, and a meditative quality. He frequently employs twelve-string guitars and extended techniques to create richly textured soundscapes.

Lackawanna Station, originally opened in 1913, served as a major transportation hub for the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. Designed by the architectural firm Fellheimer & Wagner – also responsible for Los Angeles Union Station – it’s considered a significant example of Beaux-Arts architecture. The station ceased regular passenger rail service in 1985.

Following a period of disuse and potential demolition, the building underwent extensive renovation throughout the 2000s and now functions as office space while retaining many of its original architectural features. The grand waiting room with its terra cotta ornamentation and stained-glass windows is often utilized for public events and performances due to its unique acoustics and historical significance.
