Immanuel Wilkins is a contemporary American jazz saxophonist and composer recognized for a deeply emotive and spiritually-infused approach to the alto saxophone. His music frequently blends elements of post-bop, free improvisation, and gospel traditions, often exploring themes of identity, history, and faith. Wilkins’ compositions are characterized by intricate arrangements, dynamic interplay within ensembles, and his distinctive tone – simultaneously powerful and vulnerable. He rose to prominence after winning the prestigious Theodore Presser Career Grant in 2018 and has since released critically acclaimed albums on Blue Note Records.
SFJAZZ is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing jazz and related musical genres in the San Francisco Bay Area. Miner Auditorium – an 800-seat performance space renowned for its acoustics – as well as smaller club spaces and educational facilities. The organization hosts hundreds of performances annually, featuring both established artists and emerging talents from around the globe.
