Hiroshima will be performing at The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia on November 15, 2026. The group is recognized for pioneering a distinctive sound blending elements of jazz, rock, and traditional Japanese music. Formed in Los Angeles in 1973, Hiroshima utilizes both Western and Japanese instruments – including shakuhachi (bamboo flute), koto (Japanese zither), and electric instruments – to create instrumental compositions often evoking landscapes and cultural themes. Throughout their career, they have released numerous albums and contributed to several film soundtracks, establishing a dedicated following.

The Birchmere Music Hall, located in Alexandria, has a long history as a prominent venue for both established and emerging artists. Opened in 1952 as a restaurant featuring live entertainment, it gradually transitioned into a dedicated music hall gaining recognition for its intimate setting and excellent acoustics. The venue has hosted a diverse range of performers across genres including country, folk, blues, and rock. Its relatively small capacity – approximately 500 seats – contributes to the close connection between artists and audiences that it is known for. The Birchmere underwent significant renovations in the early 2000s but maintains its historic character.
