Hiromi Uehara, known professionally as Hiromi, is a Japanese jazz pianist and composer celebrated for her virtuosic technique and energetic performances. Her musical style blends jazz improvisation with elements of classical, fusion, and progressive rock, often featuring complex harmonies and rhythmic patterns. She frequently performs with diverse ensembles and is recognized for her dynamic stage presence.
The Music Center at Strathmore, located in North Bethesda, Maryland, opened in 2003. It serves as a multi-disciplinary arts center and is home to the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and CityDance. The center’s design incorporates two concert halls: the larger Music Center Hall, seating approximately 1,976 patrons, and the smaller Strathmore Mansion – a restored historic estate used for more intimate performances and events.
Strathmore aims to present a broad range of artistic programming including orchestral music, chamber music, jazz, contemporary dance, and world music. The venue has hosted numerous internationally renowned artists across various genres since its inception and is considered a significant cultural resource for the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The building itself features architectural details reflecting both its modern additions and the historical mansion it surrounds.
