Experience Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester live on June 16th
Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (GMJO) will perform at the Musikverein in Vienna on June 16, 2027. The orchestra is renowned for its interpretations of late-Romantic and early 20th-century repertoire, with a particular focus on the works of Gustav Mahler himself, alongside composers like Bruckner, Strauss, and Shostakovich. Founded in 1985 by Claudio Abbado, GMJO uniquely comprises highly talented young musicians generally under the age of 26, drawn from across Europe. The ensemble operates as a laboratory for the next generation of orchestral players.
The Musikverein, home to the Vienna Philharmonic, holds significant historical and acoustic importance. Completed in 1870, it was designed by Hans Semper and features an Italian Renaissance Revival style exterior. Internally, the building’s most famous space – the Golden Hall – is celebrated for its exceptional acoustics resulting from its rectangular shape, wooden interior construction and specific dimensions. This hall wasn't originally intended primarily for concerts; rather it served as a venue for balls and social events initially.
