The Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (GMJO) is a world-renowned youth orchestra founded in 1985 by Claudio Abbado. Initially conceived as an ensemble for musicians under 26 to explore Mahler’s symphonies – hence the name – it has evolved into a highly sought-after orchestra performing a broad repertoire spanning from early Baroque to contemporary works.

GMJO doesn’t have permanent members; rather, auditions are held annually attracting exceptionally talented young musicians internationally. This rotating membership fosters a unique energy and continually fresh interpretation.
