Experience Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester live on August 28th
Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester is renowned as one of the world’s leading youth orchestras, specializing in late-Romantic and early 20th-century repertoire. The ensemble frequently performs complex orchestral works by composers such as Mahler, Bruckner, Shostakovich, and Strauss, prioritizing a historically informed performance practice alongside youthful energy and interpretative freedom. Founded in 1992 by Claudio Abbado, the orchestra serves as a platform for exceptionally talented young musicians under the age of 26.
The concert on August 28th, 2026 will take place at Kloster Eberbach, a former Cistercian monastery located in Eltville am Rhein, Germany. Founded in 1136, the monastery flourished for over 800 years as a significant winemaking and agricultural center. Its Romanesque and Gothic architecture reflects its long history and monastic life.
Following secularization in 1803, Kloster Eberbach transitioned into private ownership and became particularly well-known for its Riesling wines – still produced today. The site gained further prominence after being featured as a filming location in the movie *The Name of the Rose* (1986).
