George Cables, a highly respected jazz pianist and composer, will perform at Dinkelspiel Auditorium on Stanford University’s campus on July 28, 2026. Cables’s musical style is rooted in the post-bop tradition, characterized by sophisticated harmonic concepts, lyrical improvisation, and a distinctive touch blending influences from McCoy Tyner and Bill Evans with his own unique voice. He is known for both his solo work and extensive collaborations with prominent figures like Dexter Gordon, Art Pepper, and Freddie Hubbard throughout his career spanning decades. His compositions often feature complex chord voicings and melodic development.

Dinkelspiel Auditorium is located within the Cummings Arts Building at Stanford University. Originally built in 1936 as the Stanford Theatre, it underwent significant renovation and was rededicated as Dinkelspiel Auditorium in 1984, named in honor of Professor Arthur L. Dinkelspiel and his wife, Marie. The auditorium is a primary venue for lectures, performances, and film screenings on campus. It's noted for its intimate setting and relatively good acoustics suitable for chamber music and solo performances like piano recitals. The space seats approximately 700 people and maintains a traditional proscenium stage configuration.
