Paterson frequently works with acoustic ensembles, creating immersive and contemplative experiences for both performers and audiences. He has received commissions from prominent orchestras and chamber groups internationally.
The Tung Auditorium, located within Liverpool’s Central Library, is a relatively new concert venue opened in May 2023 following a significant restoration project. Originally built as the Picton Reading Room in 1879, the space was designed by John Grey West and features a stunning Victorian Gothic interior. The restoration, led by Austin Smith:Lord Cultural Enterprises, aimed to transform the room into a world-class performance space while preserving its historical character. Acoustically tuned for optimal sound quality, The Tung Auditorium accommodates a diverse range of performances including classical music, contemporary works, and cross-arts collaborations. It’s named in honour of philanthropist Sir David Tung who contributed to the restoration fund. The venue represents a key element in Liverpool’s cultural offering and aims to attract national and international artists.
