Classical Concerts in Houston

Experience Gavin Bryars live on September 18th

Gavin Bryars’s music is characterized by a distinctive blend of minimalism, jazz influences, and a deep engagement with found sounds and historical materials. Often employing extended durations and textural exploration, his compositions frequently evoke a sense of contemplative stillness, though capable of dramatic shifts. He is particularly known for works like *Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet*, originally based on a fragment of a 19th-century street preacher’s testimony, and his opera *Medea*.

The performance will take place at the Wortham Theater Center in Houston, Texas on September 18, 2026. Opened in 1987, the Wortham Theater Center is a multi-venue performing arts complex designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects. It houses two principal performance spaces: Alice and George Brown Theatre – home to the Houston Grand Opera – and the Cullen Theater, utilized by the Houston Ballet and other touring productions. The center’s design incorporates extensive use of glass and steel, creating a visually striking presence in the Theater District.

The Wortham has undergone significant renovations over its history including repairs following flooding in 2001.
