Fruit Bats will be performing at the Mcmenamins Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon on October 7, 2026. Fruit Bats, the musical project of Eric Johnson, creates indie rock characterized by intricate arrangements, melodic songwriting, and a blend of folk, country, and psychedelic influences. Their sound often features layered instrumentation including horns and keyboards alongside traditional rock elements. The band has released several albums to critical acclaim, evolving from a primarily solo endeavor to a full band configuration.

The Mcmenamins Crystal Ballroom is a historic venue in Portland, originally built in 1914. It quickly gained notoriety for its innovative “floating” dance floor – suspended on springs to give dancers a unique sensation – which remains a defining feature today. Throughout its history, the ballroom hosted various events including dances and boxing matches before becoming a dedicated music venue. Mcmenamins Properties acquired the building in 1997 and restored it while maintaining its historic character. The venue is known for its ornate décor, including detailed plasterwork and a generally atmospheric ambiance reflective of its early 20th-century origins. It continues to host a diverse range of musical acts and remains a significant landmark within Portland’s music scene.
