Kinney Azalea Gardens is a publicly accessible botanical garden maintained by the University of Rhode Island. Established in 1953 through a bequest from Dr. Henry H. Kinney, the gardens were originally developed on land previously part of the historic Windham estate. The primary focus of the gardens is the cultivation and display of azaleas, rhododendrons, and companion plants suitable for New England’s climate.

Spanning approximately 10 acres, the gardens feature winding pathways through diverse plant collections, including a significant number of hybrid azaleas developed by Dr. Kinney himself. Beyond azaleas, visitors can find various flowering trees, shrubs, and perennials designed to provide seasonal interest throughout the year. The landscape also incorporates naturalistic elements such as rock outcroppings and a small pond contributing to its tranquil setting.
