Experience Dresdner Philharmonie live on September 27th
Dresdner Philharmonie is renowned for its rich orchestral tradition, encompassing a broad repertoire from Baroque to contemporary works, with a particular emphasis on German Romantic composers like Richard Strauss and Robert Schumann. The orchestra is known for its distinctive sound – often described as warm and resonant – cultivated over its long history, tracing its origins back to the Hofkapelle established by August the Strong in 1743.
The concert on September 27, 2026 will take place at the Kulturpalast Dresden. Originally opened in 1964, the Kulturpalast served as the central cultural venue of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), hosting state receptions, party congresses, and significant artistic performances. Its architecture exemplifies socialist classicism.
Following extensive renovations completed in 2017, the Kulturpalast now functions as a multifaceted cultural center, housing not only the Dresdner Philharmonie’s concert hall – noted for its excellent acoustics – but also the Dresden Semper Opera’s second stage, exhibition spaces, and conference facilities. The building’s redesign aimed to balance preserving its historical significance with modernizing it for contemporary use.
