Experience Concerto Copenhagen live on October 24th
Concerto Copenhagen, a Danish baroque orchestra founded in 1991 by Lars Ulrik Mortensen, will perform at St John’s Smith Square in London on October 24, 2026. The ensemble is internationally recognised for its historically informed performances of 17th and 18th-century music, particularly focusing on Danish and German baroque repertoire. They are known for utilising period instruments and striving for authentic interpretations based on scholarly research into performance practices of the era. Their performances often feature vibrant energy and a refined attention to detail.
St John’s Smith Square holds significant historical and musical importance. Originally built as a parish church in the early 18th century – construction began in 1723 – it was designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor, a prominent English architect known for his work with Sir Christopher Wren. Facing financial difficulties in the 20th century, the church was saved from demolition and repurposed as a concert hall in 1969. It has since become renowned for its exceptional acoustics and its dedication to showcasing a wide range of musical genres, including baroque, chamber music, choral works and contemporary compositions.
