Experience Andrè Schuen live on November 12th
Andrè Schuen is a Swiss-German countertenor recognized for his interpretations of Baroque and classical repertoire, frequently performing works by composers such as Handel, Bach, and Vivaldi. His vocal style is characterized by a clear tone, agility, and expressive ornamentation, often described as both technically precise and emotionally nuanced. He regularly collaborates with leading period instrument ensembles internationally.
The venue for the performance, Temple Church, holds significant historical and architectural importance. Originally built by the Knights Templar in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 13th following a collapse, it served as the Templars’ English headquarters. Following the dissolution of the Templars in 1312, the church became associated with the Inns of Court – professional associations for barristers and judges.
The church is renowned for its unique circular design, inspired by the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, and its impressive Norman architecture. It contains notable sculptural work including effigies of medieval knights. The Temple Church has been used as a filming location on numerous occasions and continues to function as a working church while also being a legal landmark due to its association with the Inns of Court.
