Valdés is a Cuban pianist, composer, and bandleader internationally recognized as one of the most influential figures in modern Afro-Cuban jazz. His music blends traditional Cuban rhythms – *son*, *danza*, and *rumba* – with elements of jazz harmony and improvisation, often incorporating classical influences. He is a key figure in the development of Cubop, a style fusing Cuban and bebop jazz pioneered by his father, Bebo Valdés. Throughout his career, he has led various ensembles including Irakere, which revolutionized Cuban music in the 1970s and 80s, and currently performs with his own groups focusing on both acoustic and electric instrumentation.

The Chicago Symphony Center, located at 220 South Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, serves as the primary performance venue for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Opened in 1904 as Orchestra Hall, it underwent extensive renovations completed in 1994 which restored many of its original architectural details while adding modern amenities.
