Christophe Rousset is a French harpsichordist, organist, and conductor renowned for his historically informed performances of Baroque and Classical music. His interpretations are characterized by meticulous research into performance practices of the 17th and 18th centuries, emphasizing ornamentation, articulation, and a nuanced understanding of the composers’ intentions. He frequently directs ensembles from the keyboard, bringing a vibrant energy to works by composers such as Rameau, Couperin, and Handel.
The Teatro alla Scala, located in Milan, Italy, is one of the world’s most famous opera houses. Inaugurated on August 3, 1778 with Antonio Salieri’s *Europa riconosciuta*, it quickly became a symbol of Italian musical culture. Originally built on the site of a former church destroyed during wartime, its architecture reflects Neoclassical design. Throughout its history, La Scala has premiered numerous significant operas by composers including Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi (who had a particularly strong association with the house), Puccini and more recently commissioned works from contemporary composers. The theatre underwent extensive renovations between 2004-2008 to improve acoustics and modernize facilities while preserving its historical integrity.
