Chief Adjuah, born Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, will perform at Yoshi’s Oakland on July 19, 2026. Adjuah is a contemporary jazz trumpeter and composer known for blending elements of jazz, funk, West African rhythms, and hip-hop into a sound he terms “Stretch Music.” This approach emphasizes rhythmic and harmonic freedom, aiming to expand the traditional boundaries of jazz improvisation. He frequently utilizes custom-designed instruments incorporating alternate valve systems to achieve unique sonic textures. Adjuah has released numerous critically acclaimed albums and consistently tours internationally.
Yoshi’s Oakland is a renowned jazz club with a significant history in the Bay Area music scene. Originally founded in Berkeley, California in 1974 by Yoshiaki “Yoshi” Matsuura, it quickly became a vital venue for both established and emerging jazz artists. The club relocated to Jack London Square in Oakland in 2007, offering a larger capacity and enhanced acoustics.
