The Open-Air Theater Valkenburg is a unique venue built into the side of a marlstone quarry in the Limburg province of the Netherlands. Originally constructed in 1937 as a venue for Limburg Festivals, it has a long history of hosting performances ranging from opera and operetta to musical theatre, concerts, and ballet. The natural acoustics of the quarry walls contribute to the venue’s distinctive atmosphere. The theater underwent significant renovations in the early 2000s to improve facilities while preserving its historical character and intimate setting.
