Caris Hermes, a German composer and musician, will perform at Christuskirche in Bochum on December 1st, 2026. Hermes’s work is often described as contemporary classical, frequently incorporating elements of ambient music, minimalist composition, and field recordings. Her pieces often explore themes of nature, space, and perception through extended instrumental textures and subtle harmonic shifts. She frequently utilizes piano and electronic processing in her compositions.
Christuskirche, located in the centre of Bochum, is a Neo-Gothic Protestant church consecrated in 1889. Designed by architect Julius Raschdorff – who later contributed to the Berlin Cathedral – it was built as a response to the growing industrial population of Bochum and intended to be a prominent religious landmark. The church suffered significant damage during World War II but was subsequently reconstructed between 1948 and 1950, retaining much of its original architectural character while incorporating some modern elements in the restoration. Its interior features stained glass windows and a notable organ built by the Sauer company; the acoustics are considered particularly well-suited for musical performances. The building serves as an active parish church within the Evangelical Church of Westphalia.
