Cantando Admont, the vocal ensemble originating from the Benedictine monastery of Admont in Austria, will perform at the Kollegienkirche in Salzburg on July 21, 2026. The ensemble specializes in historically informed performance practice of Renaissance and Baroque choral music, with a particular focus on works from the Austrian region and compositions connected to monastic traditions. Their repertoire frequently includes polyphonic masses, motets, and sacred concertos, often utilizing original instrumentation alongside unaccompanied voices.
The Kollegienkirche, officially the Church of St. Michael, is a significant Baroque church in Salzburg. Constructed between 1694 and 1707 under Archbishop Sigismund von Kollonitz, it was designed by Italian architect Santino Solari. The church is renowned for its distinctive elliptical dome and its role as the collegiate church for the University of Salzburg's Benedictine monastery. It served as a site for important liturgical celebrations and musical performances during the Baroque period, including frequent performances attended by Mozart’s family; Mozart himself is believed to have played the organ there as a child. The interior features extensive stucco work by Matthias Sebald and paintings reflecting the Counter-Reformation’s artistic ideals.
