Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will perform at Bristol Beacon on March 18, 2027. The BSO is recognised for its versatile repertoire, encompassing core classical works alongside contemporary compositions and a commitment to film music performances. Founded in 1893, the orchestra has a long history of broadcasting and recording, and is known for its dynamic interpretations and strong community engagement within the South West of England and beyond.
Bristol Beacon, formerly known as Bristol Colston Hall, underwent a major £48.8 million refurbishment completed in late 2023. The building originally opened in 1878, designed by William Venning. Throughout its history it has hosted a diverse range of performances, from classical concerts and orchestral appearances to popular music acts and theatrical productions. The renovation aimed to improve accessibility, acoustics and overall audience experience while respecting the hall’s Victorian heritage. It now features three performance spaces: Halla, the Lantern Hall and the recital room. The venue's renaming reflected a desire to move away from the association with Edward Colston, a historical figure whose legacy became controversial due to his involvement in the transatlantic slave trade.
