Experience Biréli Lagrène live on July 18th
Biréli Lagrène is a French jazz guitarist renowned for his virtuosity and unique style, blending Gypsy jazz—strongly influenced by Django Reinhardt—with elements of bebop, mainstream jazz, and even Latin music. He began playing professionally at a very young age, quickly gaining recognition for his exceptional technical skill and improvisational abilities. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with numerous prominent jazz musicians and explored diverse musical avenues, including electric jazz fusion projects.
Neimënster, the venue for the concert, is a cultural centre situated in the Grund district of Luxembourg City. Originally a Benedictine abbey founded in 1606, it underwent significant transformations over the centuries. Following secularization in the 19th century, the site served various purposes including a military hospital and barracks.
In 1994, Neimënster was repurposed as a European centre for culture and meetings following extensive renovations. The complex now comprises several spaces dedicated to artistic expression – including concert halls, exhibition areas and workshop facilities – all integrated within the historic architectural framework of the former abbey. It hosts a diverse programme encompassing music, theatre, dance, literature and visual arts events throughout the year and is known for its atmospheric setting and acoustics.
