Berwaldhallen is Stockholm’s primary concert hall dedicated to classical music, and is the home of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Opened in 1979, it was designed by architect Erik Kråkström with acoustics as a central focus. The hall’s design intentionally avoids traditional “shoebox” shapes, opting instead for terraced seating surrounding the stage to promote direct sound reflection and intimacy between performers and audience. Its acoustic properties are consistently ranked among the best in Europe, making it a favored venue for recordings and broadcasts alongside live performances. The hall regularly hosts both domestic and international artists spanning a wide range of orchestral and chamber music. It is named after Swedish composer Franz Berwald.
