The Mozarteum Foundation, encompassing the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Mozarteum concert hall, has a significant history rooted in preserving and promoting the legacy of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Founded in 1841 by Mozart’s widow Constanze and her son August Andreas, initially as a society dedicated to musical education, it evolved into a university in 1914. The current concert hall, built between 1910-1914 according to plans by architect Clemens Holzmeister, is known for its excellent acoustics and neo-Baroque design. It serves as a key venue for classical music performances in Salzburg throughout the year, hosting both local and international artists.
