Tampa Theatre originally opened on December 31, 1926, during the height of the silent film era. Designed by architect John Eberson in an elaborate atmospheric style intended to evoke a Mediterranean courtyard under a starlit sky, it's renowned for its opulent interior featuring a grand foyer, ornate plasterwork, and a Wurlitzer theatre organ. The theatre was saved from demolition in the 1970s through community fundraising efforts and is now a non-profit cultural institution hosting films, concerts, and other live events. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains a significant landmark in downtown Tampa.
