The Academy of Ancient Music (AAM) will perform at the West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge on February 10, 2027. The AAM is internationally renowned for its historically informed performance practice of Baroque and early Classical music. This involves utilizing instruments and performance techniques appropriate to the period in which the music was originally composed – typically meaning instruments built to original specifications or replicas, and a focus on ornamentation and stylistic nuances derived from historical sources. The ensemble’s repertoire spans composers such as Bach, Handel, and Purcell, aiming for authenticity in sound and interpretation.

West Road Concert Hall is the primary performance space for the Faculty of Music, University of Cambridge. Opened in 1904, it was designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield and initially served as a dedicated recital hall. The hall underwent significant refurbishment between 2018-2019, improving its acoustic properties and accessibility while retaining its original character. It is noted for its intimate setting and excellent acoustics particularly suited to chamber music and early music performances. The hall’s architecture reflects Edwardian Baroque style with notable detailing in its plasterwork and decorative elements. It regularly hosts concerts by students, visiting ensembles, and established professional groups.
