Toro y Moi is the stage name of Chaz Bear, an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist originating from Columbia, South Carolina. Initially gaining recognition in 2010 with his lo-fi, psychedelic chillwave album *Causers of This*, Bear quickly evolved beyond genre constraints. His early work, released on Carpark Records, established a signature sound blending electronic textures with funk and soul influences.
Over a decade-spanning career, Toro y Moi has released eight studio albums, including critically acclaimed projects like *Anything in Return* (2013) which leaned heavily into disco and funk, and *Boo Boo* (2017), exploring more experimental R&B territory. He consistently demonstrates versatility, incorporating elements of indie rock, boogie, and even jazz into his productions.
Beyond album releases, Bear owns and operates the label Company Records. He’s toured extensively worldwide, performing at major festivals like Coachella and Pitchfork Music Festival.
