Michael Rettig is a German multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer best known as the founder and sole member of the darkwave/electronic body music (EBM) project, Vomitron. Beginning in 1998, Rettig’s work initially gained traction within the underground industrial scene, characterized by heavily distorted sounds, aggressive beats, and often satirical or provocative lyrical themes.
He expanded beyond Vomitron to create numerous other projects showcasing diverse electronic styles – including Spectrale, Der Körper, and KKM (with Jan Heckmann & Torben Schmidt), demonstrating a prolific output across genres like synth-pop, ambient techno, and noise. Rettig’s sound design is frequently lauded for its raw energy and meticulous attention to detail.
Throughout his career, he's released music on influential labels such as Hands Productions, Cyclic Law, and aufnahme + wiedergabe. He's toured extensively throughout Europe supporting acts like Skinny Puppy and Front 242. Rettig’s consistent experimentation and dedication to pushing boundaries within electronic music have established him as a significant figure in the contemporary industrial landscape. He continues to actively release new material and perform live.
