Alfred Hochedlinger (born 1942, Vienna) is an Austrian composer and pianist renowned for his microtonal music and explorations of just intonation. He studied with Erich Urbanner and Dieter Kaufmann, developing a unique compositional language rejecting equal temperament in favor of harmonic systems based on naturally occurring ratios.

Hochedlinger’s work often features extended techniques on the piano, utilizing the instrument's full sonic potential beyond traditional scales. His compositions include solo piano pieces like *Twelve Preludes for Piano* (1976-78), chamber works, and orchestral scores. He's notably explored historical tuning systems, incorporating them into contemporary contexts.

A significant aspect of his career has been dedicated to research and teaching; he lectured at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna for many years. His influence extends to a generation of composers interested in alternative tuning systems. Though not widely commercially released, recordings exist through smaller labels and private releases documenting his pioneering work. He received the Austrian State Prize for Composition in 1987, recognizing his substantial contribution to contemporary classical music.
