Jakobs Castle is the moniker of American multi-instrumentalist and producer Jakob McLean, originating from Asheville, North Carolina. Initially gaining traction through self-released music on Bandcamp in the late 2010s, McLean’s project quickly garnered a dedicated online following for its distinctive blend of vaporwave, lo-fi hip hop, and ambient textures.

His sound is characterized by heavily sampled source material – often drawing from 80s and 90s smooth jazz, corporate instructional videos, and elevator music – meticulously layered with atmospheric synths and distorted beats. This creates a nostalgic yet unsettling aesthetic frequently described as “mallsoft” or “hauntology.”

Jakobs Castle released his critically acclaimed debut album *Hotel Delusion* in 2018 via Orange Milk Records, expanding his reach significantly. Subsequent releases like *Themes From…* (2020) further solidified his position within the burgeoning vaporwave scene and beyond. He's been featured on prominent online music publications like Tiny Mix Tapes and Bandcamp Daily. While maintaining a relatively low public profile, Jakobs Castle continues to release music independently and through select labels, consistently influencing contemporary ambient and sample-based electronic music.
