Epitaph Records is a renowned independent record label founded in 1980 by Brett Gurewitz, guitarist of the iconic punk band Bad Religion. Originating in Los Angeles, California, the label was created as a platform to release Bad Religion’s music but quickly evolved into a pivotal force in the global punk rock and alternative music scenes.

Known for its DIY ethos and commitment to artist independence, Epitaph played a central role in the 1990s punk revival. The label gained mainstream recognition with releases from The Offspring, Rancid, NOFX, and Pennywise—artists who brought punk rock to a broader audience. The Offspring’s 1994 album Smash, released via Epitaph, became the best-selling independently released album of all time, further cementing the label’s influence.

Over the years, Epitaph expanded its roster to include genres such as emo, post-hardcore, and alternative rock, signing notable acts like Motion City Soundtrack, Bring Me The Horizon, and Parkway Drive.
