Laugardalshöll, Reykjavik’s largest indoor sporting arena and concert hall, opened in 1989 as part of the Laugardalur valley recreational area. Designed by architects Húsaskjár, its geodesic dome – a landmark of the Reykjavik skyline – provides a clear span of 46 meters, allowing for versatile event configurations. Initially built to house swimming pools and athletic facilities, it quickly became a central venue for large-scale concerts and events.

Laugardalshöll frequently hosts a diverse range of musical performances, from international pop and rock acts to classical concerts, Icelandic music festivals like Iceland Airwaves often utilize the hall, and it’s a key location for Eurovision-related events. Unlike many Icelandic venues, Laugardalshöll offers significant capacity – accommodating up to 6,300 people for concerts – making it ideal for major touring artists.

Beyond music, the hall hosts sporting events, exhibitions, and conventions. Its adaptable flooring and sound system enable it to function as both a stadium and an intimate concert space. The venue played a pivotal role in establishing Reykjavik as a significant stop on international tour routes, contributing substantially to the Icelandic music scene’s growth.
