Experience Sargent House
Sargent House is an American independent record label founded in 2003 by Magnus Larsson in Los Angeles, California. Initially focused on releasing music by Swedish post-hardcore band Refused after their reformation, the label quickly expanded its roster to encompass a diverse range of experimental and alternative artists. Early releases included albums from Translations and The Rapture.
The label became particularly known for championing atmospheric post-rock and related genres, signing acts like Explosions in the Sky, Russian Circles, and Caspian. Sargent House also features artists exploring shoegaze (Whirr), blackgaze (Deafheaven), and progressive metal influences (Emma Ruth Rundle). Deafheaven’s *Sunbather* (2013) achieved significant critical acclaim and broadened the label’s visibility, earning placements on numerous year-end lists.
Sargent House distinguishes itself through distinctive album artwork—often featuring stark photography—and a commitment to physical media releases, including vinyl pressings. The label continues to operate as an artist-focused entity, maintaining a relatively small but influential catalog known for its sonic cohesion despite stylistic breadth. Current artists include Chelsea Wolfe, Lingua Ignota, and Sumac.
