Classical Concerts in Chicago

Experience Zachary Wilder live on September 27th

Zachary Wilder is a composer and performer whose work frequently centers around extended vocal techniques, microtonality, and explorations of just intonation. His compositions often blend elements of contemporary classical music with influences from early music and non-Western traditions, resulting in a sound that is both intellectually rigorous and emotionally resonant. He frequently collaborates with musicians across disciplines and has received commissions from various ensembles and institutions.

The Sasha and Eugene Jarvis Opera Hall is located within the Chicago Cultural Center, a landmark building originally opened as the city’s first public library in 1897. The hall itself underwent a substantial renovation completed in 2004, restoring many of its original Beaux-Arts architectural details, including ornate plasterwork and Tiffany glass domes. It is known for its excellent acoustics and intimate setting, making it suitable for a range of performances, particularly those emphasizing vocal or chamber music. The hall regularly hosts recitals, chamber opera productions, and other events focused on classical music performance. Its capacity is approximately 260 seats. The building is a Chicago Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
