The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, holds a significant place in American music history. Originally opened in 1926 as a Loew’s Vaudeville Theatre, it quickly transitioned to showcasing live musical performances. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, the venue became particularly renowned as a prominent stop on the rock and roll circuit, hosting legendary acts like The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, and Janis Joplin. After falling into disrepair in the 1980s and 90s, the theatre underwent a comprehensive restoration completed in 2012. It now operates as a vibrant concert venue consistently ranked among the top mid-sized theaters in the United States for both sound quality and historical importance. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
