Yasmin Williams is a contemporary American guitarist known for her innovative approach to acoustic guitar playing. Her compositions blend elements of folk, jazz, hip-hop, and classical music, often utilizing extended range guitars with preparations – objects placed on or between the strings to alter the sound – creating percussive and textural effects. She frequently employs looping and layering techniques to build complex arrangements, and her work explores themes of identity, memory, and Black American experiences. Williams gained prominence through self-released recordings and online videos showcasing her unique style before signing with Spinister Records.
