VOCES8, the British vocal ensemble, is scheduled to perform at The Breakers in Newport, Rhode Island on July 11, 2026. The group is renowned for its diverse repertoire spanning classical, jazz, pop and contemporary vocal music, often characterized by intricate harmonies and a cappella arrangements. They frequently commission new works alongside performing established pieces, demonstrating a commitment to both tradition and innovation within the choral landscape. Formed in 2005 while students at Cambridge University, VOCES8 has gained international acclaim for its performances and extensive educational work.

The Breakers is a Gilded Age mansion located on Ochre Point Avenue, considered a prime example of the opulent summer “cottages” built by wealthy families during that era. Completed in 1895 for Cornelius Vanderbilt II and his family, it remains the largest private residence in Newport. Designed by Richard Morris Hunt in the Beaux-Arts style, The Breakers features an Italian Renaissance-inspired design with extensive use of marble and elaborate ornamentation. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1963 and is currently managed by the Preservation Society of Newport County, offering tours and hosting events that highlight its architectural significance and historical context.
