The church is closely associated with the Egremont family, Earls of Egremont, whose influence is visible in several features including monuments and the family pew. Notably, J.M.W. Turner is buried within the church’s north aisle; he lived in Petworth for many years and painted extensively in the surrounding area. The building showcases Perpendicular Gothic architecture with notable stained glass windows and a substantial tower providing views across the Sussex countryside.
