Václav Luks, a Czech conductor and harpsichordist, will perform at the Residenz in Würzburg on June 16, 2027. Luks is renowned for his historically informed performances of Baroque music, particularly focusing on rediscovering and championing lesser-known works from the 17th and 18th centuries. His approach emphasizes rigorous scholarship combined with a vibrant, emotionally engaging interpretation, often utilizing period instruments and performance practices. He frequently directs ensembles like Collegium 1704, which he founded, known for their interpretations of composers such as Buxtehude and Zelenka.

The Residenz Würzburg is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Germany’s most prominent Baroque palaces. Construction began in 1720 under Prince-Bishop Philipp Franz von Schönborn and continued under his successors. Designed by architects Balthasar Neumann and Luca Giordano, it exemplifies the High Baroque style with its lavish interiors, including the famous Imperial Staircase and the White Hall. Originally built as the residence of the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg, it served as their political and administrative center until the early 19th century.
