Experience Václav Luks
Václav Luks (born 1985) is a Czech harpsichordist and conductor specializing in historically informed performance practice. He rose to prominence as a founding member and artistic leader of the baroque orchestra Collegium 1704, established in 2005, alongside violinist Adam Plachta. Luks’s playing is characterized by a vibrant, expressive approach, eschewing overly academic rigidity for a nuanced and emotionally engaging interpretation of baroque repertoire.
He studied harpsichord with Robert Spearman and conducting with Patrick Fournillier. Beyond performing, Luks is actively involved in research concerning 17th and 18th-century performance techniques. Collegium 1704, under his direction, has garnered international acclaim, performing at prestigious venues like the Konzerthaus Vienna and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
Luks's discography includes critically lauded recordings of works by Bach (including complete cantata cycles), Handel, and Biber – often featuring vocal ensembles like the Collegium Vocale Gent (with whom he frequently collaborates).
